Group dressed in costume celebrating 40th birthdayAirbnb is changing the way we travel. When someone opens their Home to you with Airbnb, you can stay with your whole family or a collection of friends. You bond over coffee early in the morning. You save money by cooking together and dining in instead of dining out. And you play games late into the night. All while still having a private space to yourself to get away from everything when you need to.

Here are a few more advantages of staying at an Airbnb:

  1. Stay longer. With lower rates and a space to cook meals and dine in, Airbnb saves you money which you can use to lengthen your stay.
  2. Explore diverse neighborhoods. Airbnbs give you access to neighborhoods you wouldn’t explore if you stayed in a hotel. You may even get to choose a neighborhood you’d like to explore.
  3. Make a positive impact on the local economy. When you explore local neighborhoods, you visit shops and restaurants that you normally wouldn’t find in the hotel districts. And you help the small business owners at your destination.
  4. Live like the locals. You get a true sense of what it must be like to live at your destination when you stay in a Home within a neighborhood.

I love using Airbnb to travel with friends. In particular, I enjoy sharing a bathroom, makeup, and hair dryers with my girlfriends when we stay together. We wouldn’t get to bond over this stuff if we all stayed in separate hotel rooms.

One of my favorite Airbnb memories happened when my husband and I shared a 10 bedroom mountain retreat, complete with a basketball court, with friends to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. We transformed the basketball court into a high school dance theme for a super fun party.

As human beings, we thrive on connection at Home and away from Home. By staying at an Airbnb, you save money, explore new neighborhoods, and make a positive impact on the local economy. And you come away more deeply connected to your destination than you would if you stayed in a hotel.
